Carbon Offset
  • A carbon footprint is the total set of Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions caused by an organisation, product or service. A GHG Assessment quantifies the total greenhouse gases produced directly & indirectly from the activities of an individual, business or event, and is an essential tool for understanding and managing its impact on climate change.
  • The ZeroCarbon® certification is a local certification developed & offered by CCC's affiliate company - The Carbon Consulting Company, in accordance with the PAS 2060 global standard that was produced and published by the British Standards Institution for carbon neutrality. This certification is awarded when the total carbon footprint of an organisation, product or service is reduced to net zero through the procurement of an equal number of registered carbon credits. All the credits that are sourced and retired to offset a footprint are selected, contracted, transacted, verified and retired in accordance with globally recognised processes in carbon offsetting.

Carbon Sequestration
  • Carbon capture and sequestration may help avert problematic or catastrophic climate change. Yet saving the planet for generations to come demands much more. A world bereft of biodiversity and sustainable natural life support systems is not one we would wish to hand over to our children and our children’s children.

Our organisation is dedicated to value-added carbon capture and sequestration through the principles of Analogue Forestry. We empower and make partners of traditional communities living in close proximity to tracts of natural forest where the biodiversity is high, but under threat. Community members work with us to protect and extend forest coverage while preserving biodiversity and restoring ecosystems under expert supervision. In this way, communities in the developing world become essential partners in the effort to make a cleaner, greener and fairer world.

The Conservation Carbon Company offers a Carbon Sequestration Certification for our clients by calculating the sequestration levels of the number of the trees they plant.

Biodiversity Assessment
Biodiversity Assessment
  • Biodiversity is the variety of living organisms considered at all levels of organisation, from genetics through species, to higher taxonomic levels, and including the variety of habitats and ecosystems, as well as the processes occurring therein. Biodiversity is not the same as the number of different kinds of species in a place. It is far more complex than just the richness of species (Species Diversity), although that is one component of biodiversity with the others being Genetic Diversity, Ecosystem Diversity and Landscape Diversity.
  • Most industries operate without considering the biodiversity or the ecological sensitivity of the surrounding area. However, in order to be a truly responsible corporate entity, it is important to identify the microclimate of the area, and have a working knowledge of natural resource cycles such as water cycles and ecological cycles. This understanding will provide an immense benefit to a corporate entity, as it will enable the business to identify the long-term consequences of their activities and help adopt measures to enhance the quality of the microclimate.
  • The Conservation Carbon Company can carry out Biodiversity assessments on specified client business operations, and give a detailed report on the diversity of fauna, flora, as well as the richness of the species of the environment the entity operates in. The client will also be offered a Biodiversity Indicator Label which they can utilise in their marketing activities

PLAN VIVO
  • Plan Vivo is a framework for supporting communities to manage their natural resources more sustainably, with a view to generating climate, livelihood and ecosystem benefits. It enables the designing and certifying of community-based payments for ecosystem services. Plan Vivo came about as a result of a small-scale research project in 1994 in rural Mexico. The partners involved in the development of this project include Edinburgh Centre for Carbon Management, the University of Edinburgh, El Colegio de la Fronterra Sur and several other local partners.
  • Plan Vivo project design is community-led. Communities decide which land use activities (e.g. woodlots, agroforestry, forest conservation) will best address threats to local ecosystems and are of interest and value to them. Their projects emphasize the planting of native species to ensure that the planted trees are adapted to local conditions and provide ecosystem services beyond carbon, such as soil stability, watershed protection and habitat for biodiversity. Each plan vivo is checked by the project coordinator to check it is realistic and in line with technical requirements, and will support the participant’s livelihood objectives. Using the project’s approved technical specification (which includes a methodology for calculating carbon sequestered or emissions avoided), the carbon services generated from each plan vivo are calculated. Through securing the supply of ecosystem services, community land becomes more resilient to potential future stresses, and producers/groups enter into written agreements with the project coordinator who agree to make staged payments and provide continued technical support. Plan Vivo is the only standard not to issue credits for planting exotic species.

Rainforest Rescue International (RRI)
  • RRI is a not-for-profit organization which partners with rural communities to enhance community level environmental conservation and restoration, projects such as the Rainforest Ranger Project and the School Garden projects help the future generations understand the importance of the environment and the need to better manage natural systems.
  • RRI also believes in enhancing and identifying technology that can be used to better restore and rehabilitate ecosystems by using methods such as Analog Forestry and mangrove restoration. Through traditional seed saving, forest plant nurseries and organic farming, RRI promotes, helps, and actively reduces the ecological footprint of communities so that we may conserve and protect our common environment.

HINIDUMA
The Hiniduma Biolink
  • The Hiniduma Biolink Project in Sri Lanka offers value-added carbon credits for socially and environmentally conscious organisations and individuals. It is a reforesting project that will establish a biodiversity corridor in between the two large remnant rainforest patches - Singharaja and Kanneliya. CCC will use the Analogue Forestry concept to conserve approximately 200ha of buffer zones around the forest edges.
  • The uniqueness of this project is that it addresses the three pillars of sustainability - people, planet & profit, as local smallholder farmer’s benefit financially and therefore have a financial incentive to protect the surrounding forests. The CO2 sequestered through this project (the newly planted trees) will generate carbon credits that can be sold as Voluntary Carbon Standard (VCS) credits in the local and international carbon markets. As such, this project will be financed through the money generated from the sale of these carbon credits. The project follows the Plan Vivo Standard, a globally accepted standard chosen because of its emphasis on community development. A third-party forestry expert from the UK did the field level verification. The carbon credits are presently registered on the Markit Registry.(www.markitenvironmental.com)
